This talk will provide a new insight to describe the gravitational waves in F(R) gravity theory with the chameleon mechanism. The F(R) gravity includes an extra scalar field, which predicts a scalar mode of gravitational waves in addition to the ordinary tensor polarization modes. Viable models of F(R) gravity possess the chameleon mechanism, and the propagation of the scalar field, so-called the fifth force, is expected to be suppressed. Taking into account the chameleon mechanism of F(R) gravity and combining the established methods to analyze the gravitational waves, we discuss the possibility to detect the scalar waves by the existing ground-based gravitational wave observatory and necessity and practical utilization of the future space-based observatory. |
