The critical phenomena in gravitational collapse were discovered numerically by Choptuik in 1993. Since then, great efforts have been made on this subject both numerically and analytically. However, up to now, the analytic solution to critical collapse is not available yet, and the nature of critical collapse has not been well understood. By combining numerical and analytic approaches, and connecting critical collapse and black hole formation, we obtain some preliminary analytic results on critical collapse. The possible connection between critical collapse and standing waves will be discussed. |
