报告摘要:

CQED and nanophotonics focus on to the fundamental light-matter interactions at nanoscale. Different from bulk properties, the nanostructured composites demonstrate unique optoelectronic properties for potential applications with unprecedented functionalities. In this talk, I will present the light-matter interactions in the cavity structures embedded with various semiconductor systems, mainly including my PhD and postdoctoral study of the exciton-photon coupling in the optical cavities. I will introduce the hybrid quasiparticles, i. e., exciton-polaritons in the cavities when the strong coupling regime is reached, and discuss how these hybrid particles lead to interesting physics such as Bose-Einstein condensation. Then I will focus on the hybrid organic and inorganic exciton-polaritons at room temperature, and the 2D exciton-polaritons and their coherent control. If the time permits, I will also present some of our recent progress on the perovskite semiconductor with Rydberg excitons. Finally, I will briefly talk about some future ideas on the fundamental study of these excitonic materials in some interesting photonic structures.
报告人简介:

Xiaoze Liu is now a postdoctoral scholar in NSF Nano-scale Science and Engineering Center (NSEC) with Professor Xiang Zhang at University of California, Berkeley since 2015. He received his bachelor degree in applied physics from the School of Physics at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2008. Then he came to City University of New York for the graduate study, and got his PhD in Physics in 2014 under supervision of Professor Vinod Menon. His research focuses on cavity quantum electrodynamics (CQED) and nanophotonics with emerging semiconductor materials, such as hybrid organic-inorganic semiconductors, two-dimensional (2D) materials and perovskites. His research now has led to 2 publications in Nature Photonics, 2 in Phys. Rev. Lett., several others in PNAS, Nano Lett. and related journals, and more recently 2 unpublished works under review in high impact journals.
