In this talk I will discuss the development of spin qubits in semiconductor systems for the purpose of quantum information processing. I will introduce the basic idea of quantum computation, the charge qubit and explain why spin qubits are considered superior in many aspects. Then I will discuss various kinds of spin qubits developed to date, ranging from the simplest realization to more complex designs. In particular, I will introduce the Loss-DiVincenzo qubit, singlet-triplet qubit, exchange-only qubit, resonant-exchange qubit and the hybrid qubit, and I will put an emphasis on the reason why physicists gradually step into the more complicated encoding scheme. I will also discuss major mechanisms of decoherence which may deteriorate the quantum control. This talk may serve as a tutorial into the field of spin quantum computation. |

Prof. Xin (Sunny) Wang received the degree of B.S. from School of Physics, Peking University in 2005, and received his Ph.D. degree from Columbia University in 2010. His Ph.D. study was focused on the theory of strongly correlated materials, in particular the high-Tc superconductors. From 2010-2015, Dr. Wang was a Research Associate in Condensed Matter Theory Center at University of Maryland, College Park. Starting from 2015 he joined the City University of Hong Kong as an Assistant Professor. |
